We've been carrying out some bracken control for National Trust Dark Peak Estate. The work is to help some trees to establish that have been planted in the cloughs around the Upper Derwent Valley and Snake Pass.
Bracken can be controlled in a number of ways including spraying and cutting but for this project we've been beating it.
By bruising the stems we allow the rhizomes to send up nutrients whilst the plant is dying which will adversley effect the following years growth.
You can see in the photo above the opposite bank has been sprayed previously but this method may have an effect on the young saplings that have been planted.
At Aitch Conservation we can offer all types of bracken control including spraying, beating and manual or mechanical cutting.
